Feng Tian

Post-doctoral Associate

2007-2011

EDUCATION

Ph.D. in Crop Genetics and Breeding June 2007

China Agricultural University, Beijing, China

B. S. in Agronomy July 2002

Yangtze University, Jingzhou, Hubei, China

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Study the genetic and developmental changes that have occurred during plant evolution (especially crop domestication) ; Evolutional and comparative genomics

Integrate the advantages of linkage analysis and association mapping to identify QTL for important quantitative traits

Dissect the genetic architecture of complex traits, and develop and apply genomic tools for the improvement of crops

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Postdoctoral Associate, Ed Buckler lab September 2007 – November 2011

Institute for Genomic Diversity, Cornell University

Dissect the genetic architecture of maize leaf with NAM (Nested Association Mapping). Use joint linkage analysis to identify QTLs for important leaf traits. After projecting parental sequence to NAM, use whole genome association mapping to dissect QTL to QTN.

Characterize the molecular and adaptive nature of the maize flowering time QTL . Use joint linkage analysis, association mapping and positional cloning to identify the molecular variants responsible for flowering time QTL. Use molecular population genetics method to study the adaptive nature of flowering time QTL.

Graduate student, Chuanqing Sun lab September 2002 - June 2007

Department of Plant Genetics and Breeding, China Agricultural University

Identified a quantitative trait locus key to rice panicle domestication from wild rice (Oryza rufipogon Griff.) using map-based cloning

Constructed a set of introgression lines carrying wild rice (Oryza rufipogon Griff.) segments in cultivated rice (O. sativa L.) background and characterized introgressed segments associated with yield-related traits

In search of heterotic loci associated with yield-related traits derived from wild rice (Oryza rufipogon Griff.) and revealed the genetic basis of heterosis between wild rice and cultivated rice

Assisted in fine mapping of the yield-improving QTL qGY2–1 from wild rice (Oryza rufipogon Griff.)
